  We have been a trusted partner to the Millennium Bridge since its inception, providing specialist insurance expertise and cover from the start of the project. From the early days - when unexpected lateral movement earned it the nickname “the wobbly bridge” - we’ve worked closely with engineers and stakeholders to help stabilise the structure and maintain its long-term integrity.
  Over the years, our team has provided ongoing technical insight and responsive support to resolve complex issues and enable essential maintenance, ensuring the bridge remains safe, accessible, and well protected.
  Most recently, we’ve continued to advise and support stakeholders in light of wear to the aluminium deck surface, which has gradually become smoother and more slippery. While a planned £3.5 million refurbishment has been deferred to 2026, our continued involvement - underpinned by our deep understanding of the bridge’s design, performance, and risk profile - remains central to ensuring its long-term resilience and usability.

Interesting facts
1. First new pedestrian bridge over the Thames in over a century
  Opened on June 10, 2000, the Millennium Bridge was the first new pedestrian bridge across the River Thames in more than 100 years, connecting St Paul’s Cathedral with Tate Modern.

2. Nicknamed the “Wobbly Bridge”
  The bridge quickly earned the nickname “wobbly bridge” after noticeable swaying occurred on its opening weekend. Following extensive stabilisation work, it reopened in February 2002 and has since become one of London’s most recognisable landmarks.

  The bridge provides a vital cultural link between the City and Bankside and is even featured in the opening scenes of the film; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and in the 2014 Marvel film: Guardians of the Galaxy.
